Kawao's Biography
Starting off as a duet and
as a backyard band, Walt G and China made it every musicians dream into
reality. Next was being able to think of a band name. It's one of the
toughest things any group can do. The name they think of has to reflect
on who they are, what they stand for, and what they believe in. Kawao
comes from the Hawaiian definition meaning "One heart, One soul, One
sound" and was given to them by Hawaiian Culture Historian, Nalani
Olds. Kawao captures that essence because their group name is not only
unique, but it also stands for everything that has been put together.
Kawao was formed in the summer of 2003 in Waianae, Hawaii and has
exploded on to the music scene with their catchy lyrics and smooth
grooves.
This group has become famous
over the past 2 years. They recently produced their first full-length
album entitled “One of those days" and was finally released in April of
2005. On August 20, 2005 they performed in front of a sold out concert
at Don Ho's island Grill for their CD release concert. With the success
of their CD release concert, they have caught the eye of many clubs and
venues state wide.
They are currently doing
performance shows all over the state and have been featured on local
radio stations and news papers. They have opened for sold-out concerts
and playing along side International artists such as Tanya Stephens,
Chaka Demus, Notch (formerly known as Born Jamericans), Mikey Dread, and
Hawaii's premier entertainers to include Natural Vibrations, B.E.T.,
Koauka, Sudden Rush, and many others. Kawao is available for all types
of venues, clubs, and bars. Kawao also specializes in private parties,
weddings, special events, and tourist-resort venues. Any place you could
possibly conceive of having a live island band, Kawao is ready to bring
the sound and energy to the stage.
With so many accomplishments
in such a short amount of time without major label support, the hard
working members of Kawao are showing that they are eager and focused on
the next level.
Kawao is sponsored by Sonny
D. Ukuleles, Pure Breed Dezign, and 3D Auto Performance.
